Special Christian Education Events 2009-2010
The Christian Education Commission sponsors several events throughout the year in conjunction with other commissions and guilds.
- First Communion Class
October 12, 19 & 26th for Grades 1 and up
The fall class will be offered on Monday afternoons from 4:30-5:30, for three weeks, in the Angel Room. The class is meant to prepare students to make their First Communion at the 9 a.m. Eucharist on All Saints Sunday, November 1st. A reception will follow to celebrate this special day. In the spring, the class will be offered Feb. 22, March 1 & 8th in the Angel Room. Spring participants will make their First Communion on Sunday, March 14th at the 9:00 a.m. service.
- All Hallows Eve
October 31st 3:00-5:00 p.m. Come in Costume
Open to the entire parish.
This playful event is meant to educate children about the religious significance of the day before sending them off to enjoy a spooky night of trick or treating. Liturgy in the Nave is 3-3:30. Trunk or Treating 3:30-4 & Carnival and Dinner 4-5.
- All Saints’ Day Parade
Sunday, November 1st 9 a.m. in the Nave
The children of the parish will process in at the 9:00 a.m. service displaying the banners of the saints. The Godly Play classes will hear stories and play with new sensorials that have never been presented here before, about the Communion of Saints.
- Decorating the Jesse Tree
Wednesdays, Dec. 2, 9 & 16th 7:10-8:00 p.m.
The EpiscoPals and Pre-EYC will learn about Jesus’ Family linage all the way from Adam to Mary and adorn Jesus’ family tree, the Jesse Tree, with ornaments symbolizing the members of His family. The focus of this series is not on the holiday but on the anticipation of His coming.
- Saint Nicholas’ Parent’s Day Out
Saturday, Dec. 5th 10 – 4
This is a youth fund raiser to give parents a chance to Christmas shop without their children. While parents are shopping, their children will learn all about Saint Nicholas and assist him in making toys for the girls at Amazing Grace in Kenya. The day will be filled with stories, games, physical activities, crafts, mission work, pizza at lunch, a feeling of belonging to a great community and lots of fun.
- The Epiphany Pageant
Wednesday, January 6th
5:30-7 in DeWolfe Hall
Families with children are invited to show up the day of the pageant and participate. There are no lines to learn, no rehearsals during the busy season of Christmas, and best of all, the children can focus on the birth of Christ without the detraction or hype of the Christmas season. Casting roles is done on a first come first serve basis. From 5:30-6:00 the children pick out their roles and costumes. The pageant begins at 6:00 with results often the same as if the had practiced it. No fuss, no stress and pure fun!!! The performance is followed by pizza in DeWolfe Hall.
- Mardi Gras

Children are encouraged to come to the Shrove Tuesday Pancake Supper and once they have eaten their fill of pancakes go to the Undercroft to learn more about the meaning of Lent. Mardi Gras will start out festive with bead throwing and the crowning of a king and a queen, but it will end solemnly with a procession to the garden for “The Burial of the Alleluias”. The will all be done to the beat of the Mondo Drummers.
- Friday Nights in Lent
Feb. 26, March 5, 12, 19 & 26th
6:00-8:00 p.m.
Each Friday Stations of the Cross and soup and will be offered to all ages. The soup will be prepared by the youth and the proceeds from the meals will go to cover the cost of their mission trips. Adults, youth and children will follow the same schedule as on Wednesday night, with separate and age appropriate programs that will focus on the season of Lent.
- The Interactive Stations of the Cross
April 2, 2010 Good Friday
4:00 p.m. on the church grounds
The children will participate in an age appropriate Stations of the Cross, where they will be asked to use all their senses to really understand the meaning of Good Friday. Afterwards the children will be served hot cross buns.
- The Easter Hoppening
April 4, 2010
Following the 11:15 Easter Service, on the church grounds, the children will dig up the “Alleluias”, which were buried during Lent, to find a little surprise. This will be immediately followed by a resurrection egg hunt and a delightful family dinner served to the entire All Saints Family.
- Pentecost Party

10:10 a.m. in DeWolfe Hall
Everyone in the parish is invited to the church’s birthday party! The children will make their own party hats to symbolize the tongues of fire. Father Jambor will retell the story of Pentecost using the Godly Play format. Afterwards, as in all birthday parties, there will be cake and ice cream.
- VBS Camp Counselor Training
June 14-18, 2010 9:00 – Noon (Youth ages 10 and up)
This is a two week commitment unless prior approval has been given. The week before Vacation Bible School, the youth of the church and their friends may help plan and prepare Vacation Bible School. At the end of the week the youth counselors are assigned campers to mentor for the next week. This is worth 30 hours of community service.

“Knights and Ladies of the Lord’s Table”
June 21-25, 2010
9:00 – Noon, Mon. – Thurs.
Friday Closing Ceremony and Family Celebration from 6:00-9:00 p.m.
This year the children will step back in time to learn about Jesus from the perspective of living in medieval times. The king will tell stories that will transport the children even further back in time to the last week of Jesus’ life. The children will play medieval games, wear period costumes, eat medieval snacks, and learn about castles, knights, ladies, kings and queens. At the end of the week they will be knighted to serve the one and only true king, Jesus Christ and be called into action by working for one of All Saints’ missions.
- “Mom and Me” Vacation Bible School (Children 2 ½-3 ½ years old and their moms)
Offered at the same time as Vacation Bible School
This program is designed to prepare children for separation from their mothers. The mothers will guide their children through the morning activities, with an abbreviated version of what the other children will be doing. For 45 minutes each day, mother and child will attend separate classes. The mother’s class will nurture the mother’s soul as much as the child’s class will nurture the child’s soul.
